Unique URLs in emails

Hi,

I am trying to send out an email with a link to a survey in it.

The survey link is unique to each person.

So, I created a custom field in Marketo and called it 'Survey Link'

I then uploaded my list. It worked - when I go into a specific contact I can see their unique survey URL populated for the 'Survey Link' field.

I then added the '{{lead.Survey Link:default=edit me}}' token in the email.

It's not working when I send myself a sample. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Unique URLs in emails

Did you enter your email address in the "Send To:" field of the send sample window? If so, that will only send the default email to yourself. Instead, either add yourself as a lead and select your email under "Lead:" or select another lead with the survey link populated and enter their email in "Lead:". This allows you to preview the email as if you were that lead with populated tokens.

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me. I chose a lead from the drop down.

And did that lead have the survey link field populated? And the sample email sent to you still did not have the token?

Yes, the lead had that field populated and it still didn't work.

But I just sent myself a sample again this morning and it did work. I didn't make any changes from yesterday. Hmm...

Could it be that when you create a new custom field it takes time for it to be 'usable' ?

Re: Unique URLs in emails

If you find this not working consistently, it's best if you don't include the "http(s)" protocol in the field.  Instead, hard-code this as follows:

https://{{lead.Survey Link}}
