Soft bounced through trigger campaign and not through batch campaign

While sending out a an autoresponder, the email was sent out  through a triggered campaign and it soft bounced and Marketo did not capture the reason of soft bounce and the activity log showed "No attributes to display".When we sent out the same email via batch campaign the email got delivered.

The possible reason why the email soft bounced could be because of empty "Reply To" in the email but why was the same issue not reported in case of a batch campaign?

And why could Marketo not spot the reason behind the soft bounce?

Re: Soft bounced through trigger campaign and not through batch campaign

If you are missing required headers in your email, then it will soft bounce.

Marketo will only see the Soft Bounce reason if the receiving server tells Marketo about it, so do not rely on this data to exist every time.

Also, a soft bounce is usually temporary, so if you send it later, (and marketo will try up to 24 hours after the bounce), it may get through.

Re: Soft bounced through trigger campaign and not through batch campaign

Soft bounces are very tricky. It's because of a server rejection of the email so it may soft bounce sometimes and not others, which is why Marketo doesn't automatically mark your email as "Email Invalid" because of a soft bounce. The batch vs. trigger has nothing to do with it. Correlation not causation

Re: Soft bounced through trigger campaign and not through batch campaign

Well, not all soft bounces are a result of server rejection per se. Marketo (unfortunately IMO) classifies some DNS-level failures as soft, although in the SMTP world we commonly surface these as a permanent error.

Whether these failures are truly soft is debatable: for example, a mistyped left-hand-side of an email address and a typo in the right-hand-side (domain) are not usually going to have different results during a later send. And I'd venture that the former is no less likely to "fix itself" than the latter in the real world.

Thanks Michael

I figured out that Marketo is working on it and this is the issue with Email Editor 2.0 only. Thanks for posting it.

I just came back to say the same thing as Michael! If you're using Email Editor 2.0, this could be the problem: Email Editor 2.0 lets trigger based emails soft bounce
