Marketo SFDC intergration - SFDC Contacts

We have leads in Marketo but no contacts. In SFDC there are contacts associated with accounts. The contact information in SFDC is more reliable than Marketo lead info.

Is there a way to sync the SFDC contacts with leads in Marketo while restricting Marketo updating SFDC contacts.

Thanks,

Vivian

Re: Marketo SFDC intergration - SFDC Contacts

Once you resolve the reason your SFDC Contacts are not syncing to Marketo, you can restrict Marketo from updating any Contact field by changing the permissions for the Marketo sync user to read only.

Also, be aware that when you sync your Contacts to Marketo, a duplicate Maketo lead will be created if there is already a lead whose SFDC Type is Lead that has the same email address as the Contact.  This won't occur if you are using an SFDC app like DupeBlocker to prevent duplicate leads.

Re: Marketo SFDC intergration - SFDC Contacts

Is the SFDC Type for all of your leads in Marketo 'Lead' and none are 'Contact'?  If so, I'd be very surprised as the normal behavior is for any SFDC Contacts to sync to Marketo unless the Contact object and or all of its fields are not visible to the Marketo sync user - is this the case?

Re: Marketo SFDC intergration - SFDC Contacts

Hey Elliott, good to see you on here.

It does sound like your marketo user cannot see SFDC Contacts for some reason. the standard behavior as alluded to is for all SFDC records to be visible to Marketo and Markeot will update based on email address match.

Are you saying you want Marketo to ONLY see SFDC Contacts?? It's possible if you restrict Marketo user from seeing SFDC Leads.

Perhaps you need to explain to us the lead lifecycle you have with Sales.

Re: Marketo SFDC intergration - SFDC Contacts

Thanks both for you reply. Here are more information.

The SFDC contacts are added by sales after they interacted with them face to face or by email.

The marketo leads came from customer self reported data. They are not reliable nor most up to date.

The goal of integration is assist sales and provide SFDC user to see any front end activities (such as marketing email clicks, website visits., etc) from Marketo leads that are associated with SFDC accounts. Some of these Marketo leads might be contacts in SFDC, some of them are not. We do not want the Marketo lead info to update any SFDC leads or contacts as a result of the sync. On the other hand, it might be OK for SFDC contacts to add duplicates or update Marketo leads.

Re: Marketo SFDC intergration - SFDC Contacts

You can prevent Marketo from updating data in any SFDC Lead/Contact fields.  When someone submits a form, does this data go into Marketo or into SFDC?  If forms submit into Marketo, do you want new leads to be added to SFDC? if so, you will need to use field blocks to prevent Marketo from updating existing field data.  If forms don't submit into Marketo, and you don't add new leads to Marketo from any source other than SFDC, then you can change the permissions for the Marketo sync user on all the fields to be read-only.

Are you using Marketo to send emails?  If so, you will want to prevent duplicates from being created in Marketo. Also the online activity of a lead is tracked via a cookie that can only be associated with one lead, so you will want to prevent duplicates from being created in Marketo.

Re: Marketo SFDC intergration - SFDC Contacts

We do add new leads to Marketo from form submission as well as updating existing Marketo leads.

The SFDC contacts are mainly decision makers or influencers of our customers or prospects. They are created by account owners. We would like SFDC contacts to update Marketo leads but not the other way around.
