Impact of Deactivating a Smart Campaign

Question: If I deactivate a smart campaign that has several hundred existing leads running through it, what happens to those existing leads?

Do they continue to run through the smart campaign unaffected and to conclusion, with no new leads being qualified?

OR

Are all existing leads ejected from the campaign, with no new leads being qualified?

Persons in the flow will continue to the conclusion of the flow. The campaign will simply stop taking in new persons.
