How do you use autotagging with Marketo parameters

We're implementing Marketo for a client and they want to track leads coming from Adwords Campaigns.  Standard stuff.  But they currently use autotagging in Adwords, which allows them to tag with just a click id and then resolve on the back end in Analytics.  

Do you use autotagging in GA?  How does this work with passing parameters to Marketo?

We were told by our agency to not include the utm parameters because they might conflict with the autotagging, but I don't know that for a fact.  One parameter that we use to help determine the general lead source (e.g. online ad, etc.) is utm_medium, so we had the agency use "medium" instead.  We also use a sfid_r paramter and the value is the SFDC campaign ID for that particular campaign.

We do use autotagging, but that is just for the standard "utm_ xxx" parameters.  We also have other parameters that we include that are passed through.

Thanks Elliot.  Are you passing through utm parameters to match up your results with GA, or passing separate parameters?

Can you just setup a Markeo form to capture the utm code's that Google is already autotagging? 

Will it capture keyword in that case? I think it would be utm_term

Jon the issue is when Google uses autotagging, they only have one parameter, for the click id, rather than separate parameters for term, etc.  They resolve it on their end so your Google interface will still see the right data, but it doesn't as easily pull into other systems.

According to this page: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033981, the only URL parameter added to GA links is the "gclid" parameter, replacing UTM codes. I'm using this as part of a listener Smart Campaign for AdWords:0EM50000000QqoF.jpg
Not sure if it is working yet, and don't want to click on our expensive keywords to test, so I can wait for the weekend 🙂

Glad I found this discussion, and to learn I'm not the only one with this challenge. I follow Jason's approach which works pretty well for now. I've got dedicated SEM and display landing pages, so all I'm really trying to do is separate which source the traffic came from (AdWords or AdCenter). 

That said, I've debated moving away from autotagging to gain greater visibility within Marketo and Salesforce on the detailed campaign variable (campaign, term, source, medium, etc). I've got it now for Bing, but I don't for Google, so it makes my reports a bit lopsided. We don't have a huge demand for that level of data visibility right now, but I'm just trying to build for the future.

Hi I am just try start the Adwords integration. The Auto tagging does really what? I am confused.

Either autotagging is done in marketo or in adwords? which means the original source observed in marketo will overwrite the tag in the adwords? or the adword's tagging will replace the original source info in Marketo? Please explain.
