Emoji's in Subject lines?

We would like to start adding emoji's in our email subject lines. Is this possible? We've been able to add a heart

emoji before, but we're not having any luck with adding anything else.

Thanks!
Alexis

Re: Emoji's in Subject lines?

It's somewhat complicated how this all works. We don't support all emojis in our subject lines. We only support text symbols that are generally then converted into emojis by the recipient's email client (or operating system). There is a set of accepted text symbols that will universally work on all clients and many will convert them to emoji.

See this:

If you were to copy something like the airplane and put it in a subject line, you would see on iOS it convert to the airplane emoji.  But we don't support any old emoji that is supported in the unicode standard, as there are many email clients will not support them and we try to make sure people aren't putting things in that won't look as they expect it to. We are considering adding support in the future.

Re: Emoji's in Subject lines?

Hi Alexis,

It is possible to use emojis in a subject line.  Here's a good article from Campaign Monitor explaining how to make this happen.  Note that emojis are not supported by all email clients, especially older versions of Outlook.

Thanks, Robby!

I think the issue we're experiencing here is that the emoji's  we want to add are not converting properly. Also, whenever we add an emoji to the subject, the rest of the copy is getting deleted.

Re: Emoji's in Subject lines?

I tried using emojis directly copied and pasted from the recommended source on Facebook Symbols (fsymsbols.com). When you past it into the subject line in Marketo's email editor it appears to work. But if you close the email and approve it, the emoji is stripped from the subject line when you preview/edit again.

Re: Emoji's in Subject lines?

Does anyone have feedback with deliverability of emojis in subject lines?  We are inclined to use them in the future but have a concern about spam traps and ultimately making in the inbox.
