Does Salesforce Campaign sync automatically sync leads to SFDC?

Does Salesforce Campaign sync automatically sync leads to SFDC?

AT our organization we use Marketo and SFDC together. We would only like leads sync'd to SFDC when the lead has been scored high enough to be a Sales Qualified Lead. However, we are also experimenting with SFDC Campaign sync on some of our Marketo programs to see how that works.

We have performed a couple of lead list imports into such a program (a webinar) and noticed a fair number of those leads getting sync'd to SFDC even though the import didn't appear to change their lead score. All it really did was add them to the program and change some program status values.

Does anyone have any experience with this configuration? Might SFDC Campaign sync be incompatible with a strategy of keeping marketing qualified leads out of SFDC until they are deemed Sales Qualified?

A Marketo program synchronised with Salesforce campaigns sends the leads to SFDC by default.

Re: Does Salesforce Campaign sync automatically sync leads to SFDC?

Do most organizations use Campaign sync to do this?
It would seem to be contrary to Marketo's philosophy of nurturing MQL's in Marketo and NOT sending leads to SFDC until they are SQL's.

Or...is there a best practice for how to allow MQL's into SFDC but keep them out of the sales team's view?

I'd like information/clarity on this too. It seems contrary to the nurturing and I'm trying to get a firm answer on this before D-day of our migration.

Re: Does Salesforce Campaign sync automatically sync leads to SFDC?

We are in the same quandary. Because Salesforce offers Campaign History which is very valuable for attribution, we feel that it might be a good idea to send ALL leads to SFDC just so we can have Campaign History. Why? Because the minute you assign a lead a SFDC Campaign, it WILL, by Implied Salesforce Action rules, be synced to SFDC, no matter the SQL/MQL status.

The question is: Is the Salesforce Campaign History offerings so good that it overrides the Marketo philosophy of keeping non-MQL/SQL in Marketo?

How have others gone about doing this? Any best practices?

Re: Does Salesforce Campaign sync automatically sync leads to SFDC?

I'm new to Marketo... more of a Salesforce guy.... and I also have this issue.  I'm still learning and I could be completely off base but here is what I am thinking... Someone please correct me if this doesn't work (or let me know if it will!).

I am going to create a campaign and a child campaign.  When the lead scoring of the parent campaign hits a certain threshold the prospects will be moved to the child campaign.  Only the child campaign will be sync'd with Salesforce and therefore everything in Salesforce will be qualified.

My other thought is to sync everything and then use the automation tools in Salesforce to delete the records after a certain period (or immediately) that don't meet my criteria (such as being invited to a webinar but not actually attending).

Thanks for the help!

Hi Gregg, can you elaborate on your statement that auto-syncing will create a lot of duplicates? Thanks!
