Workflow and Trigger definition guide

Workflow and Trigger definition guide

Hiya,
I know the Workflows/Triggers are meant to be self-explanatory but I don't know what hallf of them do. I'd like to suggest that a guide to define them all is produced.
Does anybody else face this problem? And do you think this could help?
Best,

Hi Benjamin,

This has been an idea several times now. So I made my own list. It's still comprehensive in spite of the changes.

You can buy it here:

Sorry for the plug, but I did take the time to log all the filters and triggers.

If you search for "triggers" or glossary, Marketo does have lists of these on separate pages.

If you are a new user to Marketo, i recommend Josh's guide.  I have found it helpful in many ways.

Marketo should produce this type of definitive guide. This to me is a no brainer not all filters are self explanitory, I want to use this product to its fullest potential and if i dont know how all the filters work then i feel as though i was just given a 128 color pack of Crayons and told i can only use 6 of them.

Here are a few for an example:

Under Segment filters

IsCachingAnonWebActivityList
IsCachingEmailActivityList
IsCachingGroupedWebActivityList
IsCachingWebActivityList

How do these filters work? is Marketo caching? is it the lead record user caching? how does marketo track this? its filters like these that i would like a definitive write up on so i can refer to it when im choosing filters to find my data.

I totally agree Casey. This should really be provided by Marketo.

Thanks for the offer Josh, but I don't intend to pay for a tutorial for something my company has already spent a lot on.

Those Caching filters seem to a bug.  I am working on getting them removed as soon as possible.

Additionally, my team is working on re-writing every single help article.  The Smart List deep dive is one of the next sections we are upgrading.  Although we are not describing every single filter, we are describing all the ones I think aren't obvious.  Like First Name is pretty obvious, but random sample, inactivity, inferred, anonymous, duplicate fields, and others aren't.  They will be explained.

In the short term, Josh's guide is helpful, but I see it as a personal mission at Marketo to document the product in a way that doesn't lead to any confusion.

Great to hear Glen. I'm sure you can provide more detail than I can.

To be fair to Ben up there, I wrote the Guide to fill in the gaps in the docs and to share what I've learned that would make a relatively new user's life easier. All the key things are in one place and organized around how someone might use the system.

The docs are more complete now, so there's less of a need for an external guide. That being said, my fee is very small compared to the monthly cost of Marketo - and it's one time fee for continual use instead of an hourly consultant's fee. That's a pretty high leverage to gain more from a system you spend a lot of money on.

Erin - glad it was helpful to you!
