Make a subscription/preference centre part of the main product

We all should be doing it but  Marketo could help everybody out by creating a product based subscription/preference centre.  It should be be able to customize the channels (probably via tag/tokens) and apply them to programs/emails.

Adding the preference centre would required a new email attribute to handle all the cases and maybe a rule such that an email  can not be approved until it has been attached to one of the preference centre channels.

I'd also add the ability to have more than one subscription/preference center if the account has to represent more than one brand or product.

You can get around the preference center limitation with individual fields for each subscription/preference, and put those fields into your forms.  It's not ideal, and is ugly if you have multple channels, but it works.

I'd like to see an improved subscription preferences centre too.

Marketo do provide a tutorial to build a  subscription centre http://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000KyuK, however there are several limitations to their model:
- it's cookies dependent, so doesn't work / gives a misleading indication of subscriptions preferences for users who for whatever reason don't have a cookie set (accessing email from a different computer, have cleared cookies etc)
- the scripts provided are the reverse of the usual logic (i.e.you have to tick to unsubscribe rather than subscribe), so you need to adapt this code.

We worked with Marketo to develop a non-cookies-dependent solution for our website, but it would be great if Marketo could provide a more robust solution as part of the service.

Laura,

Could you go into more details about your non-cookied pref centre as I have been thinking on the same lines and would be interested in how you designed it and if possible share with the thread the end-results?

Cheers,
Eric

Love this idea. Has there been any progress on this topic since the original post?
