Layering in Email Templates

Layering in Email Templates

Layering in email templates is currently not available, but it is available in landing page templates. Layering allows you to put a text box over an image, for example in our email template we'd like the ability to easily edit the email headline, which in our template is written over the banner image. To make even a small change we have to create a new image each time. Please add layering functionality to email templates.

This should be able to be accomplished through background images and text boxes.

Hi Erik,

Support says its a known issue with the email templates. Do you have an example of code that can make this possible?

Thanks!

Hey Beth,

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the idea. You want to have an image underneath text? And you want the image to stay the same and the text to change.

To do this, I would use a background image for the section and then have an editable text area where I could change the text.

Marketo wouldn't be able to creating a layering experience for emails that is identical to landing pages because of the lack of support for basic HTML/CSS in email clients.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Erik! This helps and makes sense. I'll share this with our design team and see what we can do.

Be carerful with this approach.  Depending on the email clients of your targeted audience, this may not render properly.  Specifically in newer versions of Outlook.  Here's a comprehensive breakdown of the CSS features avaialble per major email client: https://www.campaignmonitor.com/css/
