Fix Smart Lists on an Email Send so They Don't Require So Much RAM to Run

I cannot select or manage the Smart List from an Email Send Program because my computer is a MacBook Air with only 4GB of RAM. While I realize that is a fairly small amount of RAM, I can run PhotoShop, and other Adobe Creative Suite tools, plus a bunch of other apps just fine. The only thing I cannot do is assign a Smart List to an email I need to send. I have to go log into another computer or ask a co-worker to do it for me. Yes, I have tried multiple browsers, and running minimal apps on my machine, it just doesnt work, and the official answer from support is that I dont have enough RAM. That seems like a really heavey RAM requirement for a cloud app in my opinion. Is there any way you can improve the performance?

That's a really bizarre issue. I haven't experienced that exactly, but I do run into a lot of problems with the new email programs in terms of updating the audience. For instance, I have to make sure the audience count has fully processed prior to updating any of the other three boxes. If I don't, none of those changes will save (or in the case of approving the program, it'll just hang).

Brandy,

I am sorry that you are experiencing this issue. It is a known issue that our engineers are aware of and are working on a solution. This issue is rare and hard to replicate as it is dependent on the underlying Smart List, which varies for each campaign.

If you are receiving a "Warning: Unresponsive Script" message in Firefox, you may be able to compensate by adjusting the setting in Firefox to allow more time for javascript to complete. Here is a link to an article explaining how to do that for Firefox:

Thanks, Tim, I even get it when there is no Smart List assigned. I can't even assign one. I'll check into your FF recomendation. In the meantime, it seems to me this is a needed area of performance tuning.

Brandy,

I talked to our Product Mangement Department and they have informed me that this issue is scheduled to be fixed in our August release.

Please let me know if changing the javascript timeout in FF has helped with this issue.

Best regards,

A side note, unrelated to the problem reported: 4 GB of RAM on Mac OS X is actually quite good.
To put into perspective, I use a MacBook Pro with 4 GB for all work at Marketo Support.

If that is not very reassuring you have a superb laptop, my personal is a MacBook early 2008 (plastic case) used for open source software development in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, PHP, Ruby, Node.js, Python, Force.com, VisualForce and Xcode (Mac OS and iOS). It is also heavily used for iMovie. No plans to retire it anytime soon.
