Create a "Year" system token for use in common elements like footers

Every year, we are forced to update our snippets and then manually re-approve all emails and landing pages that use these snippets.  This updated, for the most part, is just to change the year.  It would be so much easier if Marketo provided a system token for us to use for the year that would auto-populate with the current year.

This would be great to have especially for emails. For landing pages it is easy enough to use JavaScript to display the date so that it doesn't need to be changed when the calendar year does.

I think it would be just as beneficial for landing pages so that you can use a consistent approach across all assets (rather than having to ensure <script>document.write(new Date().getFullYear())</script> is included in every landing page footer.  Much easier to use {{system.year}}

Oh I agree - just putting the JS out there in case it was helpful for you in the meantime.

I agree a year token would be benficial.  You could also use a my token in the top level folder that would trickle down into subfolders, campaigns, emails and landing pages.

That's another good alternative, Jason.  However, we're already using tokens for our footers (and unfortunatley, you cannot include a token within a token).

Woudn't a system year token then be a token within a token?

Indeed it would!  And that's a whole separate issue - in fact, here's an idea to vote on: https://community.marketo.com/MarketoIdeaDetail?id=08750000000JgD4AAK

This is a big time saver for me if there's a system year token!  +10 like!

There is a workaround to achieve this, you can have a top level folder, have your token for year set on that folder level and then create all your programs within that folder. That way, you would really just have to update the token once a year. However, you need to be aware that Tokens do not work in emails published to Outlook.
