Allow the cloning of individual assets across workspaces (and make it easier to clone the assets to/from a central repository)

Our environment consists of 23 country workspaces and lead partitions.  One of those workspaces is a "Center of Excellence" (CoE) workspace that contain program templates that can be cloned and then customized by that country marketer (with all of the pre-built smart campaigns in place).  We also want to offer up a library of reusable assets - specifically emails and landing pages - that the global marketers can use in their local campaign activities.  As you know, you cannot create a standalone asset outside of a program (in Marketing Activities).  Even if we create a single program to store all of these assets, Marketo still does not allow you to clone individual assets (within a program) to other programs in different workspaces.  When there's a desire to re-use an asset from another program in another workspace, you must take the following steps:

  1. Clone the ENTIRE program into an existing folder in the targeted workspace (often times, you'll receive errors since there will be a reference within a smart campaign that isn't shared/available in the targeted workspace - so this will require yet another step to first clone the program within the same workspace and delete all smart campaigns, so that you're left with a bare-bones program with just the asset(s) in the program)
  2. Clone the desired asset(s) into the other program in that workspace
  3. Delete the cloned program.

That's a lot of overhead when needing just one asset.  It would make our lives so much easier if we could simply clone individual assets from one program/workspace to another.

So then we thought, let's just create these in Design Studio.  The problem here is you cannot clone an asset in DS into a program (in Marketing Activities) that exists in a different workspace.

Today, this is a much more complex/tedious process:

  1. Clone the asset from the program to a temporary folder in Design Studio of whichever workspace the program is in
  2. Once in DS, clone the asset to a temporary "move-me" folder in the same workspace
  3. Drag the "move-me" folder to the desired workspace in DS
  4. Move the asset out of the "move-me" folder and into the "** REUSABLE EMAILS **" folder
  5. Delete the "move-me" folder in DS

And then when someone wants to use the asset in their program, they must first:

  1. Clone the asset to a temporary "move-me" folder in the same workspace
  2. Drag the "move-me" folder to the desired workspace in DS
  3. Clone the asset in the "move-me" folder to the desired program in Marketing Activities
  4. Delete the "move-me" folder in DS

Ideally, here's how we would like the entire workflow to work (a 2-step process vs. 9 steps):

  • Clone the reusable asset from a program to a pre-defined folder in Design Studio (e.g., "** REUSABLE EMAILS **" within the CoE workspace) - regardless of what workspace this program resides in Marketing Activities
  • When someone wants to use this asset in their program, they simply clone the asset from Design Studio into their program in Marketing Activities - regardless of what workspace this program resides in Marketing Activities
