Activity Reports at the Account Level

Activity Reports at the Account Level

Currently viewing activity data is done on a lead by lead basis. It would be great to view data on an account level. For example, I want to see all web page visits by all Leads at company X. Currently I have run a smart list for all leads with Company Name = X. Then view each individual Lead record, select Activity Log, filter by Web, Export the data to Excel and repeat for all leads from Company X. That is a ridiculous amount of work to answer the simple question by sales, "what web pages are people from this account visiting".

This is a simple example. It would be great to be able to do this for all activities, as well as what programs they are engaging with.

Hi Kevin,

This is great idea! Do you have any ideas on what you want see as 'summary' of all the activities?

As an Account can have 1000's of leads and going through the list of activities can  be cumbersome.

Mahesh,

Good morning. One simple example would be a report that showed leads from an account, and for each lead the programs they are a member of. I can run a report for each program and filter for an account. That is tedious at best. It would be great to pick an account or accounts and have a list of programs there leads are members of. Another example would be to pick an account and have a list of web pages they visited. The bigger picture though would be to do activity-based reporting on the account level. Tier 1 account - program membership >> visited web pages >> form fill outs >> emails sent/opened/clicked - that sort thing. I get asked by management to report on the account level, not on the lead level. It seems Marketo is very limited on account-based reporting.

Thank you,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

This make sense. On more question -

I understand that the source of Accounts in most of the cases is CRM but what if there are duplicate accounts in CRM? How do you see that play out in case of showing the activities or even leads at account level?

MJ,

I would suggest bypassing the CRM altogether and create this type of reporting ability natively in Marketo simply based on the Company Name and/or email domain. This would find all leads associated with the company and show the activities. Where there are duplicate or multiple accounts in the CRM, it wouldn't matter for creating an activity report in Marketo. I would use something like, Company Name contains "Sony". As you know Sony has many divisions and are indeed separate accounts in our instance of SFDC. They do however wrap up to a parent account. The executive team would be pleased to see a report for leads working for Sony, including all the subdivisions. If based on email domain, even the subdivisions would be easily identified and separated if needed.

Thank you,

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, this makes a lot of sense.

Other than reporting, do you also see it valuable if Marketo  wraps up multiple Sony accounts in CRM (not the child accounts but lets say there are multiple standalone accounts of Sony in CRM) into 1 Marketo account called as 'Sony' and wraps up all the leads/contacts and activities at that level?

This way marketers if want to target whole Sony for whatever reason they can do that by just selecting 1 Marketo account.

With advantages, I see a problem also in this kind of model that Sales team may still want to see the reporting on each standalone sony account?

Any thoughts?

Hi Kevin,

I'm currently scoping out a new Web Activity Report. My goal is to create a unified report that will let you view the web activity across various lenses. For example, we'd show you the metrics for each of your tracked pages and the people and companies looking at them. Additionally, I'd have filtering options to show  web activity for a specific company, person or page. I believe this would address your use case directly:

  • Show me all of the web pages viewed by people from company X in the last 7 days.
  • Show me all of the people from company X who have viewed pages on my site in the last 7 days.

There are more use cases I'll be addressing and would like to schedule time to pick your brain. Are you free this week (Jan 9th)?  Please respond here or email me directly at cfuentealba@marketo.com.

Thanks

Christina
