Excluding Leads in Email Campaigns

I am having trouble figuring out how to exclude a certain subset of people from receiving our emails.
I've tried using the logic "Not In" a certain Smartlist, Static List, Campaign, etc., but can't tell if the subset is truly being excluded or not. Also, I'm having some challenges with understanding how best to set up the Advanced Filters in the Campaign Smartlist, i.e., 1 and 2 (or 3 or 4 or 5).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Laura

Re: Excluding Leads in Email Campaigns

If you are using the smart list to filter people out this should do the trick. Don't use advanced logic for this one. Look at your lead number in the bottom right hand of your screen. That tell you how many got pulled in. Run this with and without your exclusion filter to see how the lists adjusts. Always good to spot check!

Marketo does have some documentation on using advanced filters, it can get tricky, but do a search on their documentation for this.

Also, within the filter logic menu, they offer a few suggestions on how to write your advancd logic.

If you want your 3 - 5 filters to be stand alone from your 1 and 2 (combined). I'd move your fitlers around to write it like 1 or 2 or 3 or (4 and 5). This is ulitimately saying give me people from 4 different subsets of data.

If you want to further refine your list with the 3 "or" filters i'd write it like this 1 and 2 and (3 or 4 or 5). This is saying give me those who fit into 1 and 2 and 3, 1 and 2 and 4, 1 and 2 and 5.

Hope this helps.

See my tutorials:

but w/o knowing precisely what you are trying to include or exclude, this is all theoretical.
