How long are emails saved in Marketo?

We're just getting started with a new newsletter that is sent through Marketo. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to archive the newsletters on our web site, and had the idea of linking to them (using the View as web page link). However, I can't find any info about how long an email is stored/saved in Marketo. I obviously need to know that before I decide if this is a good or bad way to archive our newsletters.

Re: How long are emails saved in Marketo?

Hi Sarah,

I download the HTML for the email (by clicking the View as a webpage) and view the source code, copy and put it onto a blank template landing page in Marketo. Then I link my website newsletter archives to each landing page instead. http://www.leandatainc.com/news.html

I do this to track clicks but you can take the HTML and put it onto a blank website template too, and host it yourself if you are concerned. I do not know of the landing page not being accessible or having a deadline date. (Ony if I cancel Marketo). I believe I can still archive the program, and the landing page will still be accessible.

Hey Sarah,

Archived emails are never deleted. You should be good to proceed!

Re: How long are emails saved in Marketo?

The only thing I would add to this is when you use the "View as Web Page" link included with an email is that if you are not cookied as a known lead when viewing the link as hosted by Marketo, you actually won't see anything load. That may be fine--or even desired--if the newsletters are supposed to be gated, but it may be offputting if this is meant for general public consumption.

I'd recommend doing what Debbie suggested, honestly.

@Courtney G: perhaps you mean something else, but View as Web Page links (to http://landingpages.example.com/index.php/email/emailWebview?...) certainly don't require that you be a known (associated) lead when viewing.

@Sanford W: Indeed, you're right--it looks like the test instance I was using was just hanging on the way to resolving to emailWebview.

Like Jeff said, emails in Marketo are never deleted. The beauty about cloud based software is the unlimited storage! 🙂

Are you looking to archive them on your website? I am not sure that I'd trust the 'view as webpage link' unless you test it profusely. It might be better to save the newsletter as a PDF and have them directed to the PDF in their browser when they click the link.

I don't see any reason to trust View as Web Page links for day-to-day marketing, but not for an archive.   Either they work or they don't.  Do you exclude them from your e-mails?

Thanks for all the opinions and insight. I had already (sort of) decided to try a variation of Debbie's answer so I'm going to go down that path.
