Scoring Wonkiness

I am noticing some of my leads with huge lead scores but zero activity. I went into the smart campaigns and for job title and department, they were set to allow the lead to move through every time. Im wondering if this is racking up the points. So if a VP, for example, gets 20 points then tomorrow runs through the campaign again, does he get another 20 points for the same exact thing? Seems like Marketo should not allow points to be added for the same data value as a previous run but this is the only thing that would make sense.

If I set it to, allow leads to go through just once, will it catch updates and changes to the field? So if someone goes through and doesnt have a job title so gets 0 points, then we populate the job title field, will the lead get credit in the lead score for the new value?

Re: Scoring Wonkiness

Is it a recurring campaign or are the campaign's qualification rules are set to run flow every time?

The latter may inflate the scores if the goal is adding points when a job title is assigned or changed.
If that is a correct assumption, the trigger "Data Value Changes" could be an option.

it runs every day and the lead can go through more than once.

Re: Scoring Wonkiness

The best way to confirm for sure what is going on is to look at your high-scoring lead's Activity Log and see what campaigns are going through. Once you understand what exactly is happening, then you can adjust.

That said, changing that campaign to once per lead is probably a good idea.

Re: Scoring Wonkiness

One "gotcha" scoring campaign I've found is "visits more than one web page" type of scoring boosts—if it's set to go off every time, you can quickly get an absurd lead score. Set that kind of scoring campaign to fire once a day.

Best,
