Regarding One Salesforce Account Limitation with Marketo Sync

Hi,
I see this one of the important section while configuring Marketo with Salesforce which says :
You can only sync one Salesforce account with Marketo. Once you start the sync, you can change the login that you use with that account, but you cannot change to a different Salesforce account or change the Sandbox flag.

Cam someone please resolve below queries :
1. What do you mean one cannot change diff Salesforce account. Can I first sync in sandbox and then later configure the same marketo account for production instance. Or it wont allow that ?

Thanks

Re: Regarding One Salesforce Account Limitation with Marketo Sync

Hi Gaurav,

You can only sync one Salesforce account with Marketo.

Think of the word account as ORG.

You CANNOT sync one Marketo instance to your SFDC sandbox and then switch it to sync to your SDFC Production org. Once you sync your Marketo instance to a sandbox you are tied down to that sandbox. If you refresh the SFDC sandbox then support can assist you in getting the sync up and running between the existing Marketo instance and the fresh sandbox.

Really if you want to sync your SFDC sandbox to a marketo instance then you should contact your account executive and discuss the possibility of getting a sandbox.

Your Marketo Production instance should be reserved for your SFDC production.

Re: Regarding One Salesforce Account Limitation with Marketo Sync

Your assumption is correct - you cannot first sync with a SFDC sandbox and then sync the same Marketo account to your SFDC production. You should ask Marketo for a Marketo Sandbox for each SFDC sandbox you need to test it with.

Re: Regarding One Salesforce Account Limitation with Marketo Sync

You can change the sync users associated to a single Salesforce instance.

However changing user associated to a sandbox to production or vice versa will break the sync and corrupt the entire Marketo instance, rendering it unusable. It is necessary to provision a new Marketo instance to start the sync from the ground.

The reason is the Salesofrce OrgID. Marketo reads the metadata and that is distinct from one instance to another.

That is the reason you can notI first sync in sandbox and then later configure the same marketo account for production instance.

Re: Regarding One Salesforce Account Limitation with Marketo Sync

Yes, my idea is to explore the Marketo configuration and workign thoroughly in Sandbox before I migrate to Production. Hence, required a trial kind of stuff to start with sandbox. Thanks for the pointers, will contact the account executive if Marketo Sandbox can be provisioned for such scenarios.

Thanks
