Activity Type Reporting

I have a email campaign with some links in the mail.  If someone clicks on teh link, it changes their status in the program.   However, in some testing, I noticed that there was some latency in changing the status.   Specifically, I could see that the lead clicked in the mail in their activity log, but the status did not update.

So......the questions are:
1)  Has anyone else seen any latency.
2)  How do you run a report for all leads in a program with an activity type "Click Link"

Thanks

Re: Activity Type Reporting

Marketo triggers are held in queues, and some queues just run later...sometimes it lead to latency.

Your concern regarding Activities type "Click Link";
Create a Smartlist and apply the following filters;

Inline image 1
Select your program and then add your email, in addition with the link you want to track.
If you just want to track the emails, remove the link filter.

  Hope this will help.

Re: Activity Type Reporting

If what you are seeing is based on how the program activity is set up to use progression status with triggers or batch on a schedualled basis.

Example: With email programs that are set to change the lead progression based on a trigger filter i.e. live change, your going to see progressions failing/skipping.

Let me explain, email clients take too long to ping back to marketo that the email was opened. This open is based on a pixel image being downloaded. The lead could have opened, clicked the email link within seconds. What will happen is the progression status for click link is the first to get updated, later the email client of the users pings the image and triggers your open progression but then fails/skips as progressions can't go backwards within a program.

Marketo is in control of the click activity but not the open as Marketo relies on the email client passing the open info.

Re: Activity Type Reporting

Thanks for the help.
So you are saying that you would never have "clicked link" as an activity before the status would change?

Said another way, if I see "clicked link" as an activity in the activity log, and I do not see a program status change, there there is something wrong in my trigger or flow.

Is that right.

All that being said, do you know how to run a report for activity types across all leads in a program?

Thanks,

RM

Re: Activity Type Reporting

You want clicked link as a progression change status as this is fast and controled by Marketo because a click drops a cookie.
The open is controlled by the email client sending data back that a 1x1 pixel image was requested and therefore takes time to update the activity.

If you do see that a click link in email and your progression activity is not being triggered to update the progression then there may be an issue with your flow set up.

Re: Activity Type Reporting

Thanks Alok.  I can see that.
I put the filters into the smart list on a out of the box report.   Analytics>>EWmail Reports>>Email link performance.
When I look at the report, if shows me the link and how amny people clicked on it.   Do you know how i can see the details of which leads clicked on it?  Do I need to start with a different report?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Activity Type Reporting

You can try "drill down" by email functionality in your report. In case it doesn’t work then you can create a smart list instead of report with the same filters I have specified above.
