Pause Leads in Nurture

We have a welcome program setup that leads enter when they are created with certain parameters (1 web form). What I would like to do is be able to pull people from the program at any point in time - so pause them in action. But if needed, I would like to add them where they left off if I choose to do so. Is this even possible? Anyone else doing something silimar or exactly as I describe? I need to figure this one out. Thanks

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

The new engagement program for nurturing includes a flow action that allows you pause people in the engagement program.  You would create a campaign with the parameters for when they should be paused and the flow would be "Change Engagement Program Cadence" to PAUSE.

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

Im not sure I understand this. We have several programs (lightbulbs) for nurture - 6 total. People move from 1 to the next but I need to pause them along the way. Do I just had a flow step to each smart campaign already existing? Or do I need to create a new one just for this? Also - how does this un-pause someone so they go back in the track where we took them out?

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

Cheryl is referring to the new engagement programs which can do this more easily than the "old" style nurturing with multiple campaigns - which is how I think you're describing your setup.

Ok - I dont want to create a whole new program here. I just want to be able to pause leads. Was this not an option before the new engagement programs came out?

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

I think a lot of it depends on HOW you built out this nurturing campaign. In ours we have a perpetual cycle between email send campaigns and then a wait campaign, with one master that checks if the lead has already been part of the campaign before continuing down the line. So in my case, I could remove from flow and then just put them back in and they would go to the right email send campaign, having already been a member of any others they had been sent in the past. Not sure if this is helpful without more details on your particular setup 😞

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

It's 6 separate campaigns based upon status pulled in from an integration with Totango. So the interaction someone has with our product determines what email they will receive and when. I need to the ability for a non-Marketo user to pause people if they are in conversations with him so they are not getting bombarded with emails. Im just not clear how to pause people in this flow - or flows rather.

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

I'd use "marketing suspended" to pause them in the program and prevent sending the emails.  As to getting them back to the same spot, if you design your campaigns to prioritize emails based on what was sent before, you could do this.  If you haven't already designed it this way, it might be a headache to update.

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

I don't mean to hijack this conversation, but figured I'd hop in here rather than create a net new thread. Maybe my problem will be similar to Christina's.

I've attached an image of the general style that our nurturing campaign is set up as. You'll notice the "Run Campaign" houses all of the members throughout the entirety of the program, and requests the actual send campaigns at set time intervals.

I have a group of leads, all cleary differentiated by a region of "NYC Metro", that I'd like to pause in my flow. What might be a good approach to hold off these NYC leads from the flow? Remove from flow, and duplicate the "Run Campaign" but remove the first two steps (everyone has been sent touch 1) and re-engage them in that flow when ready?

Re: Pause Leads in Nurture

I would recommend that you watch the video on the new Engagement engine that simplifies nurturing.  The engagement engine includes a feature that allows you to easily pause a lead in the program (it uses a new flow action called Change Engagement program cadence).  Check out the New release tab for more details.
