The Impact of Becoming Certified in Marketo

It has been 5 months since the release of our certification program and I wanted to hear your stories on how being certified has impacted you.  Have you seen career advancement?  Are co-workers working with you differentely than they had before?  If you are a consultant or partner, have you closed more business because of it?

When speaking to fellow Marketo users, the general consensus has been that the exam was fairly easy to pass. I personally have not noticed much of a difference in my work environment but it may just be my organization or team's indifference toward certifications. I've heard that the SFDC Certification is very challenging and a lot of people expect not to pass the first time. I'm not SFDC Certified nor have I tried taking the exam so I'm not speaking from experience.

Also, I understand that creating an advanced exam will take a lot of time and consideration since each person's expertise is unique to how current business processes are set up. This is really what's great about Marketo - there isn't just one way to use it. It's wonderfully customizable and rewarding to those who come up with unique solutions to specific challenges.

I personally had many employers taking notice in the certification and finding value in it when looking for a candidate. Within a couple months of being certified, I was offered and accepted a new job as Marketing Automation Manager with a great company. I think it will continue to help with career advacement and look forward to an advanced exam as well. 🙂

A couple of recruiters and companies did reach out to me on LinkedIn after being certified. The positions were too narrow compared to what I do in my current job, but it was a total surprise to me.  But when my boss announced in chatter that I became Marketo certified (insted of me bragging), and when our CEO mentioned why it's a big thing for our company, and it was also noted in my annual review, it made me feel more appreciated, credible and a trusted resource at work.

Certification is a nice social proof and can certainly help validate your hard work to understand Marketo and how it can be used effectively. I agree it may tend to get people into marketing operations more.

I beta tested the RCA and found that a bit harder because I don't use it everyday. If you have used Marketo for a year, you can pass the certification exam easily.
