Prevent Recipients of Previous Campaign from Receiving a New One

Hi,

I am setting up a smart campaign for an email send and I wanted to be sure that I am doing it correctly.  I want to be sure that anybody that was sent a previous email (called "Summer Promo 2013_Email 5- Brands" if that makes it easier to follow) will not receive the current campaign I am setting up.

Will the Smart List filter called "Was Sent Email"- "Email: is not" "Summer Promo 2013_Email 5- Brands" work for this?

I was also debating using an inactivity filter in place of this- "was not sent email" but wasn't very clear on the difference between the two.

Another thing you can do in your new campaign smart list is to add the filter, not a member of smart campaign, which is the previous campaign that you set up.  But if some of the members from the first campaign will be in the new campaign then maybe not.  

But you are correct, the Smart List filter should be Was Sent Email, Email is not  Summer Promo 2013_Email 5- Brands.

"Not was sent" (or I actually use "Not was delivered", or even "Not Opened Email") + IS + "Summer Promo 2013_Email 5- Brands" is what you want to use.

"Was sent" IS NOT "
Summer Promo 2013_Email 5- Brands" would give you everyone who was sent any email that is not that  one, I believe.

Jen Farhoumand​ the inactivity filters tend to confuse me a bit, especially when trying to think in double negatives. What I do is create a smart list of all the people that were delivered the Summer promo email, then in my new campaignTarget Audience say "Member of Smart List Not In - Summer Promo".

Another tip: in all of my campaigns, I add those who were delivered an email into a Static List. This helps if you're going to have a complicated smart list in the future, you can just say "not in list x". Then you don't have to wait forever for the smart list to load.
