How to import a list of attendees with some new and some old Contacts?

I have a list of webinar attendees. Some of them are new Leads, others are current Contacts we already have in Salesforce. What would be the best way to import them into Salesforce so that new people get added as Leads whereas for current Contacts, the contact information is updated? Both groups of people should be added to the Salesforce Campaign that we created for this webinar.

Any insight is apprciated.

Patrick

Hi Patrick, if you import them into Marketo and use a Salesforce campaign sync, then any contacts that you already have (based on email address) will be updated, and anyone not already in SFDC will be created as a lead. The SFDC campaign sync can either be done as a flow step if the campaign is already created, or you can create one on the program level in Marketo.

Re: How to import a list of attendees with some new and some old Contacts?

Hi Dory (or anyone else that has some good insight here),

I noticed that in the way I have set up myflow step current contacts are only updated with regards to their campaign status. Newer information (e.g. new job title) is not being overwritten in the flow step "Add to SFDC Campaign" with "Status=xx".

How can I make sure that (selected) newer information is added to SFDC as well?

Thanks in advance.

Re: How to import a list of attendees with some new and some old Contacts?

Patrick, have you checked that list imports are allowed to update fields such as job title? This would be found under Admin > Field Management > Block updates from: List import

This will prevent the fields from being updated in the way that you're suggesting.

When I go to "Field Management" I have a 'blank canvas' under fields. That means we probably did not set this up. What is default behavior?

TIA

Hi Dory,

You might have missed my last question: when I go to "Field Management" I have a 'blank canvas' under fields. That means we probably did not set this up.

Do you know what is default behavior?

I really appreciate your help.

Hey Patrick, this isn't in the blank canvas, please see the image below. This should help.

Re: How to import a list of attendees with some new and some old Contacts?

When I go to 'Fields' I see the blank canvas (see screenshot below) and then when I click on 'Block field updates' I get the message: "Please select a field from the right and try again".

Do you knw if default behavior is that Marketo overwrites data, or doesn't do anything if the 'canvas is blank'? (sorry I don't know of a better way to describe it.

TIA

Patrick

Re: How to import a list of attendees with some new and some old Contacts?

You have to block list imports field by field... As far as I know, there is no way to block field updates on all fields at once. So, in this instance, you'd have to first search for a specific field, then go to field actions and block from there.
