email template goes screwy when forwarded

Has anyone had any issues with forwarding an email that's built in a Marketo template? It seems specifically if forwarded from Outlook? Our text box shifts completely to the right, and gets condensed.

Re: email template goes screwy when forwarded

You might check the "Validate HTML" feature of your template editor in Marketo. Sometimes it will help identify red flags that could screw with your formatting. In general though, forwarded emails end up looking a bit strange for me as well, but I've always assumed it has more to do with the nature of forwarding HTML templates than an issue specifically with Marketo templates. It seems to really depend on the email client being used.

Thanks, Jeff. I did take a look at that and there is nothing wrong aside for a few missing breaks. That's actually a pretty frustrating tool because it tells you "Line X Column X" yet there is no grid to show me where that actually is.

Re: email template goes screwy when forwarded

Hey Ashley,

Agreed, it is a bit barebones. What I usually do whenever editing my templates is load it into a code editor like Notepad++. It does keep track of lines and columns for you, so it's ususally easy to track down the problem areas that way.

Hope this helps,

Re: email template goes screwy when forwarded

Different email clients/browsers will render your html email differently and when they work in conjunction with one another (forward from PC Outlook 2010 to Mac Outlook 2013 for example) things get screwy. You could try to "forward" the email by sending the Marketo email to yourself and attaching it to an email in your email client. Another option is to send the email to yourself with the "view email in browser" option, take the URL, and hyperlink/incorporate the link into your email.
