can i track the success of an email 2 ways?

Hi,

I'm new to Marketo and I'm not sure if what I'm doing is correct.

We are running a training event for customers. I have set up an event campaign, including emails, forms, landing pages etc.

I would like to be able to track the success of an email invite to our customers. The previous person had set up the campaign to track progression status based on 'clicks link in email'. However, this doesn't help me as I would like to see whether they clicked on a link, but also filled out the form. Can I track these 2 things via the progression status?

Also, as the event will be promoted on our website and via social media, we will have people signing up for the event from various sources, not just via email. Is there a way for me to check that the people registered came via the invite email, and thus, attribute the success of the registrations by the email?

From the practical standpoint triggers "Clicks Link in Email" and "Fills Out Form" are distinct events therefore tracking each one separately to set the progression status is the most appropriate method.

You can set a trigger ( "Clicks Link in Email") and a filter ("Filled Out Form") in one campaign and "Fills Out Form" in another for greater granularity.

@Joo, each of our Marketo programs is associated with a specific channel; and those channels all have specific progression statuses.  One of our channels is "Email with landing page".  The progression statuses are as follows:

- Opens
- Clicks
- Fills out form (success)
- Downloads content (success)

We define a specific smart campaign to "Change Program Status" for each of these when they occur (via triggers).  This then allows us to view (via the Members tab) how far any given lead progressed through our program.  So in this case, we have 4 smart campaigns for this program.

Regarding your other question (using multiple channels), if you want to measure channel effectiveness (by progression status "success"), you should setup a separate Marketo program to measure success of each channel (since each channel may have different progression statuses/success steps).
