Looking For a Cheatsheet on the Differnt Kinds of Members

There are a lot of different kinds of 'Members' in Marketo:
  1. Member of Engagement Program
  2. Member of List
  3. Member of Program
  4. Member of Revenue Model
  5. Member of Smart Campaign
  6. Member of Smart List
Each area is a differnt Marketo concept that is fairly nuanced. Is there any kind of quick reference that I can use to grasp the difference between all these different kinds of Members?

Thanks

Re: Looking For a Cheatsheet on the Differnt Kinds of Members

Brandy,

I didn't mean to sound snarky if it came across that way. Here are some links that will help:

Programs Deep-Dive:
https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDeepDive?id=kA5500000008QO6CAM
Programs are "containers" for the assets and campaigns that drive a marketing event. Usually they are organized by channel (i.e. a tradeshow program, webinar program)

Engagement Programs:
https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDeepDive?id=kA5500000008QlPCAU
A fairly new feature, and a (supposedly) easier way to handle drip-based lead nurturing (as opposed to building out your own flow logic)

Smart Lists:
https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDeepDive?id=kA5500000008QOQCA2
A smart list is dynamic; leads qualify for the list as they meet a set of selected filters. Think of a lead list view or report in Salesforce...

Lists:
https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDeepDive?id=kA5500000008QO1CAM
Lists are static groups of leads explicitly added to that list by a user. Leads can belong to multiple lists, and deleting lists does not delete the leads in that list. Examples include importing, seed list for campaign testing, etc.

Smart Campaigns:
https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDeepDive?id=kA5500000008QOLCA2
The "brains" of Marketo. These are made up of four steps: Smart List (Who will be affected by the campaign), the Flow (what happens to leads that qualify), Schedule (when do leads qualify) and Results (what happened to leads that went through the campaign).  They can be triggered (i.e. when a user fills out a form, do something immediately) or batch campaigns (i.e. send this group of leads an email at 2:00pm)

Revenue Model:
https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDeepDive?id=kA5500000008QOkCAM
A way to visualize and organize your leads as they flow through the lead lifecycle. You define this for your company. Helps for reporting, SLAs with sales, moving leads from one stage to another, etc. Marketo now supports multiple revenue cycles per account, so you can have one set up for different products, business units, etc. if you please.

Does this help?

Re: Looking For a Cheatsheet on the Differnt Kinds of Members

Brandy,

Even though these are all different, they basically mean exactly what they say: at campaign run time, the lead is a member of one of those groupings. Now as to what each one is, that info can be found in the Marketo introductory literature 🙂

Re: Looking For a Cheatsheet on the Differnt Kinds of Members

Can you help me find the appropriate introductory literature? I know its very simple to you, because you live and breathe Marketo....but as someone new to the product, frankly, I'm lost. I did search for what I was looking for before posting this, but I don't really know what I don't know.

'They basically mean exactly what they say...' All of those terms that they say have 'Marketo Specific' definitions, and as someone new to this community - I am not yet fluent in Marketo-ese.

Still looking for some help here, anyone else?
