What Happens to Leads Deleted in SFDC but not Marketo?

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help. I know that when a lead is deleted from SFDC it gets added to the System Smart List of "Deleted from Salesforce" and that Marketo field is marked as "true." But, let's say we don't have another smart trigger campaign set up that deals with such leads (doesn't delete them from Marketo), what then happens to this lead when Marketo syncs with Salesforce (overnight)? Does this re-create the lead in SFDC?

Thank you,
Christina

It won't sync back into SFDC with the bidirectional sync. It will remain in Marketo only until you force it to sync back into SFDC. At that point a new lead would be created in SFDC.

Does that help?

If this happens often (IE you have a large number of people who are deleted from SFDC but are still in Marketo) you may want to create a custom field with a checkbox or something so you can identify them outside of the system smart list. This would allow you to block them from being added to SFDC campaigns in the future--you could do "if value for not synced to SFDC is true, don't add them to this campaign". [To mark the box/custom field/whatever you choose would be a super easy triggered campaign that could run the background as part of your data updates]

I could just see myself trying to keep people out, but accidentially adding them to SFDC through campaigns in the future, without thinking about it. 🙂
