Recognize User by Marketo ID

I'm working with our Marketing team on a direct mail campaign. They are using an external site (non-makreto page) for this campaign but want to be able to recognize users who come to the page.

We're trying to figure out if there is a way a lead to enter their unique ID in a short form that redirects them to a page where we know recognize them and the page can be personalized. I've seen some stuff about encoding the information but since this is direct mail I think it would make the url too long. I know it's not safe for our external site to directly access our API to be able to tokenize the page so I'm just trying to figure out if there's some combo of items where we can get this to work?

Any direction would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, of course. Have a page where they enter their Marketo Unique Code (the code you'd usually send for direct mail) in an input box and click a button. Take them to a pURL when they click. Then redirect to your non-Marketo page with their relevant info in the query string.
