Guided landing pages: can't move modules / sections (unlike that of Email 2.0 modules)

I wonder if I'm the only one majorly hindered by this, or if this is something Marketo designed deliberately.

I love how in Email 2.0 templates, module / sections can be added, deleted, duplicated, etc. It makes my job super easy. I just create a handful of modules, then they can be dragged and dropped to create the right email everytime.

This isn't the case for Guided Landing pages. I love how much more we're able to do with Guided Landing pages vs Free Landing Pages. But one thing that bothers me so much is that we can turn a section on or off, but we can't move them around. For example, if I have a Landing Page Template with all the sections I need, but one landing page need one section on above another, I'll need to create a completely new Landing Page Template. Which in restrospect, isn't too bad. I just go into the template, move the code around, and a new template is created.

But from an operational point, those who are working on the landing page content will need to let me know ahead of time the exact modules, elements, and layouts they need. Then I'll need to go and create that new Guided Landing Page template before they can start working on the Landing Page.

How I wish the Guided Landing page section / modules operated the same way as the drag and drop modules of Email 2.0! (maybe someday, Marketo? hint hint)

Hi Sue, I completely agree - It would be nice to have more flexibility with the guided LP modules. I suggest posting it in the Product Idea section, maybe it'll get picked up in future releases.

Yes, great idea. Would love this feature.

I'm having the same issue. I realize the guided pages are restricted because they're responsive but surely re-ordering the modules could be done in a way that doesn't break the responsiveness? It shouldn't be much different from turning them off or on.

Hi Karyn.

Turning off/on the section of a guided template just changes the visibility of the section (display:none;), but in the Email 2.0 it is adding and removing copies of tables within the email container.  For a landing page, removing or replicating blocks requires several other controls, but it would sure be nice.

In the past I have managed this challenge by doing what Sue Liang mentioned above, which is to go in and edit the templates as needed.  It can be cumbersome and you end up with lots of templates to maintain.  I have developed some new templates using the newer frameworks and techniques that allows sections to be re-ordered.  I've also created a control to swap the columns in a section from A | B to the reverse order B | A.  In addition, I have created sections with variable call-out boxes, that flow nicely without gaps or empty blocks.  Here is a link to a short demo video...

Soapbox - Flexible Marketo Guided Template

Until Marketo offers something better, the best option may be to create a flexible template with plenty of sections to give the most layout options.

I imagine a third-party tool which uses Marketo's REST API: drag and drop sections in another tool, and then when you saves it pushes all of the content to a single container on the Marketo landing page via the API. I don't suppose someone knows of one?

Hi Grant,

I hope that, in a near future, Adobe will integrate their Creative Cloud with Marketo REST asset API and offer us this possibility.

Hey Sue-

We've put something together along the lines of what Blane shared, I think this might be the best we can do for now with guided landing pages. I love the idea of a drag-and-drop editor for Landing Pages that's more like the email editor. If you're interested in seeing a demo of the FLEX framework we're using to create LPs, please feel free to check out this recorded webinar: Templates are Supposed to Do the Work for You - YouTube
