Salesforce Objects Sync: What are "History" objects / are updated triggers possible?

I'm exploring syncing some of our custom SFDC objects into Marketo and had a few questions:

  1. When viewing my SFDC schema and searching for the custom object, I see the following:
    Screen Shot 2018-07-05 at 12.50.50 PM.png
The SQL and SQL Contact objects are different, though SQL Contact has a master-detail relationship to the SQL object. Based on this, I'm unsure what the "History: " objects are and what, if any, value they provide if synced?
  2. I've noticed that when syncing these objects, you get a few triggers and filters, but there's no "Object is updated" trigger similar to "Opportunity is updated" -- is there such a thing, or is that not available for custom object syncing?

Any insight is appreciated!

The History object is used by SFDC to log changes to the individual records.  It's not supported by the sync, however, so you should not enable the History objects to sync to Marketo.

Awesome, thanks for the insight, though it seems odd that the History objects are even available to sync.

It does indeed seem weird. Basically Marketo is showing everything it can SEE in that view, not necessarily everything it can sync to. Subtle difference, but an important one.

+1 to what Steven said, don't sync the History objects.

In terms of the triggers, I'm afraid that's not currently possible in Marketo. The way people usually do this is to set 24-hour scheduled batch campaigns and check regularly if someone HAS custom object with specific values at that point in time and then run some flow steps. No real-time triggering (yet! I'm still hopeful, one day...)

Hi Matt,

The history objects have the exact same function as the data value change activity in Marketo. So any change to the lead, contact and account objects can be leveraged through the DVC triggers and filters.

You get the same functionality on opportunities with the Opportunity is updated trigger and Opportunity was updated filter and similar filters on custom objects. You can even get the update triggers on custom objects if your instance is on the Orion architecture. Ask your CSM or support for this.

I thought those custom object update triggers that you can "request" were only on Marketo custom objects, not SFDC ones?

Good question You might be right!
