Transfer to New Instance

Hello, fellow Marketeers,

Background:

My company not only uses Marketo for ourselves but we also use the software for our clients. We separate our work from our clients by giving every company their own instance. In the beginning, we only used one instance and our first client shared that one instance with us. We want to give this client their own instance and move over the existing content.

My question:

Is there a way to clone or move existing content in one instance over to a new instance?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Transfer to New Instance

Hi Chad,

Yes, there are two ways to do it -- our company is doing this now in fact. One way is an exact copy instance, which doesn't sound like the right fit for you. The other is that the two instances are initially linked, and you can import selected programs from one instance to the other, then disconnect once you've migrated. It can be a bit of a pain moving programs one at a time, but it also gives you the opportunity to do a lot of cleanup on the way of old campaigns you aren't using. If you have any questions about the process I'd be happy to share more about our experience. Good luck!

Re: Transfer to New Instance

How do you link the two instances? I think you've got the solution and the second option would work great! I'm just a rookie with Marketo haha

Re: Transfer to New Instance

Marketo Support Services would do this for you, it's a back end direct link between the two that they have to set up.

Re: Transfer to New Instance

No problem! If you do get set up with the link, shoot me a message when you're ready to start migrating, there are a few nuances that I've found along the way that can be a big time saver in not having to figure out yourself.

Have a great rest of your Friday!

Hi Brooke,

We've launched a new instance as well to separate external communications from internal communications.  If you have some tips and tricks or any pointers we'd love to read them.  Thank you

Re: Transfer to New Instance

Hi Brooke Bartos we have just had two instances linked and I'm about to start migrating some essential programs (mostly operational ones), and I came across this thread when looking for more details - I'd really appreciate it if you had time to share some of your experience of this. I've followed you so you can send a message via nation if that works for you? Many thanks.

Re: Transfer to New Instance

You only need to know that cross instance program copy is a quite limited feature. It will not work in many cases (as soon as you try to copy a program that references a resource outside of that program) and it will recomy LP and email template even if they already exist in the new instance.

example here:
