Not getting the sample email

Hi - How else can I see the email? Do I need to approve it and send it under Marketing Activities? I've checked my junk folder for the sample email - this means a test email, correct?

And, what is a trigger, and why create a snippet?

Re: Not getting the sample email

Hi Michele,

Regarding your sample email, it might be blocked by your own messaging system, especially if you have not whitelisted Marketo IP addresses. See Configure Protocols for Marketo - Marketo Docs - Product Documentation

For your other questions, you should probably get some training. Start with Official Marketo Training and Education - Marketo

Re: Not getting the sample email

Hi Grégoire,

The email test did not go to junk and it’s my personal email, so I could not ‘unblock’ it and am still unable to get the sample test email. Fail.

And, ‘Go read the instructions’ is a helpful suggestion…. I did find and read the Marketo training info on Snippets, and would even be able to create one, although I still don’t understand why an image or text or the other thing would go into a Snippet, unless it’s part of segmentation…. The use of term ‘snippet’ is a Marketo thing and is still not clear what it is to this new user. There is a lack of helpful, meaningful and quick information on the site in general, which is superdupersnippetino frustrating.

If you search the Nation for "snippet," you can read numerous discussions about the ways that experienced users take advantage of this integral Marketo feature.

Re: Not getting the sample email

Hi Meg,

If it's your personal email, and you send some sample many time, ESP such as Google will ultimately block the email after a few attempts, and not even deliver it to your spam box. On pro emails, the solution is whitelisting, but on personal email, there is not much you can do about it.

Re: Not getting the sample email

Sample did not go to my personal email, the work email or a Gmail email. Maybe it's a Mac thing? Maybe I need permissions to send a test email? Or maybe something is wrong with the actual email. I am a freelancer and am just trying to get in and out of Marketo to do a simple email as part of my job fro a client. I read up a little yesterday, but it doesn't help if nothing ever ever works. I can copy the code down to send from Putsmail but if its not sent from Marketo then the colors are all off, so that doesn't work either. It should work. I will now create a new email from template to rule out the code as I've edited it as a factor. UG.

Re: Not getting the sample email

I use a mac, and do not have such a problem. And there is no such thing a "right to send sample". Any user who can edit an email can send a sample.

It might be linked to the content of your email and/or some Pushmail specific code in you HTML that prevent the email to work correctly. Are you able to approve the email ?

Trying with an email edited from template is a good way to eliminate one cause. Keep us posted on the outcomes.

Can you include a screenshot here, of your email within the editor?

Re: Not getting the sample email

just some other obvious things to check:

  • Did you include a subject line?
  • Did you include a valid unsubscribe link in the footer of the email (if it's non-operational)?
  • While this probably isn't impacting it, it's still worth mentioning: does your email include a combination of both images and text (and not just a single image to represent the entire message)?
  • Any potential phishing flags your email may be raising?
  • Have you properly setup SPF/DKIM for your organization?  If not, then your company may be quarantining the email (which is also contingent on a valid FROM address).  This one doesn't apply in your case, since you're sending the test to your personal email.  Which email service are you using?
