Acquisition date vs. updated at

We have a weekly report we collect that should only pull the newest leads received from filling out a form on our website. What is the best way to pull that data?

We'd been looking at the "updated at" filter to determine when a lead came in, but we noticed that this date sometimes changes (perhaps the lead updated their info, therefore changing the "updated at" date) -- therefore causing duplicates in our reporting.

Would that be the "acquisition date" maybe or something else?

Re: Acquisition date vs. updated at

You can use the acquisition date, but you will want to make sure your form is on a web page under a Marketo Program tree, or the lead will never get the acquisition program or date set.

We created a custom field specifically for one of our forms. Then we created a smart campaign that changed the data value in the flow step whenever a lead filled out that specific form. That is just one way to go about it.

Acquisition date is stamped whenever the lead is new to the system AND one of:

-the lead fills out a child Form in the Program
-the lead's program status was changed to include them as a Member. (You do not have to have a child Form to do this).

Created At is probably the filter you want. Just be careful because there is an SFDC Created At as well.

Re: Acquisition date vs. updated at

Hm, maybe I'm not understanding -- or maybe I didn't explain my situation well 🙂

Basically, we have set up a Marketo form and landing page set up for a third party client and we want to capture the leads that come in through that every week. Some of these leads are brand new to our database, others may already be in our database. Is there a way to capture those (old and brand new to our database) who've filled out that form by week?

We realized that looking at the "updated at" date was confusing because it looks like that date can change. So we'd be reporting the same lead more than once -- does that make sense? We just want the date that they first filled out the form.

(And maybe you've answered my question -- but if you could break it down a bit more for me that'd be great!)

Re: Acquisition date vs. updated at

P.S. The "created at" value is pulling in dates from 2010, but this is a form we set up this year. That's why I think that's maybe pulling in the date when that lead first entered our database period - not when they first filled out this particular form.

Okay, I feel incredibly slow -- I just remembered that this is in fact what a Smart List can do 🙂

Thanks for your help guys!!
