Creating a form? Or maybe its a poll?

Hello everyone - I am brand new to Marketo and have a question.  We want to send out an email asking people to tell us which topics they want to receive from us - three choices.  I have the email ready except I don't know how to add the fields where I give them the options to select one or more topics of interest - can someone give me some clues on how to do this?

Hi Dea,

Please move this question to Products where it belongs. Marketing Central is for generic marketing questions. Read here to learn more. And yes, this is confusing, as Sanford would write

Hi Dea,

You need to create fields in Marketo database first, then add them to your form. But you really should get some training first (I do not want to be rude ) as implementing a preference center and enforcing the lead choices is not the easiest way to start with Marketo

Thanks for the info - I agree that I need training but until I get it I still have a job to do so I am asking for some help.

Thanks Darrell!  Quick question, we want to embed the three questions in the email that we are sending - I dont want them to have to go to a landing page unless thats the only option - is that the only option in this type of situation?

Hi Dea,

You cannot create a form in a Marketo email. This would not work in most of email clients anyway.

Furthermore, Marketo forms are javascript and for email servers, javascript = virus, so your emails would never be delivered.

Yes, to have them select something it would need to be a form, which must exist on a landing page.

I wouldn't suggest this but - you could have big buttons on your email that ask what their preferences are, and when they click on it they are directed to a thank you page. But they could come back and click again so, would be a little weird. Possible though.

Another option would be send a survey monkey link, or even a link to a google spreadsheet survey form, but that's a hack.

Further to Darrell's comment, you can offer a first question in the form of a couple of big-button teasers.

These buttons take the lead to the form with the first question filled out, saving a step and (in theory) smoothing the UX.

You can even use the first question to segment the form completely, though that's advanced usage.
