What happens if we change our Marketo User Sync Profile in SFDC?

My SFDC Admin just made me aware that we are consolidating a few of our SFDC user licenses to lower costs. He asked if it would be okay to consolidate our Marketo User profile in SFDC with another one? I'm wary about changing the Marketo User profile that we use to integrate/sync with SFDC, but I don't know much about the possible effects, of if there are any.

Does anyone have any experience with changing the Marketo User profile in SFDC? Any tips or advice I should know of?

Thank you,

Shirleen

Re: What happens if we change our Marketo User Sync Profile in SFDC?

Something I would consider--sharing a single user across multiple systems is efficient but if one of the third party systems makes a change you didn't expect, it would be tough to trace back. Having a separate integration user for each third-party system would address that--though it does consume additional user licenses and creates more stuff to manage. Just a thought.

There are several threads on this, in fact, one this week.

The Profile is not the same as the User, so please clarify what the Admin is changing.

Hi Shirleen,

Give a look at this post: Switching SalesForc Sync user email address

Thanks Gregoire. If we decide to share the Marketo user for other applications like Zoura or Echosign instead of creating a new user, would that be okay if the Marketo permissions and rights stay the same?

Re: What happens if we change our Marketo User Sync Profile in SFDC?

As explained in the other post, you still will have to test, as, depending on the sharing settings in your SFDC instance, 2 different users with the same profile and role may not see exactly the same records. This problem would occur if the sharing settings are set to private.

Yes, that's a good point

Re: What happens if we change our Marketo User Sync Profile in SFDC?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your opinion. That is the exact concern I shared with my SFDC admin. We have decided to leave the Marketo user by itself and not share with other applications to avoid any issues in the future in case a new SFDC admin comes along, or something gets changed.

Thank you,

Shirleen
