Domain Alias & Marketo Migration

Hi all,

I've done a bit of digging and contacted support as well on this topic but the answers have been slightly vague and inconsistent. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback on the questions below! For the most part I have a lot of areas covered when it comes to merging instances and creating aliases, but there are a few things that I can't test (and man do I love to test) so I'd like to ask the community for clarification before pulling the trigger.

Background:

Scenario 1 - We're updating the domain of our marketo instance from *info.apples.com* to *info.bananas.com*.

Question - When we switch to info.bananas.com, does the url for all *existing* Landing Pages, images and files immediately update to have the new info.bananas.com in its url?

========

Scenario 2 - Lets say we're migrating the Marketo instance of Company1 into Company2 for one awesome Marketo platform. I'm pretty clear on the work involved regarding importing programs and leads. I think I'm unclear on the effects this will have on the websites and creation of new Landing Pages as well as images/files. Company1 and Company2  will maintain their own individual websites (go.company1.com and info.company2.com) but leads from both sites flow to one Marketo where the domain is info.company2.com.

Question - In order for Company1 to use Landing Pages, images and files that are created in the marketo instance where the domain is info.company2.com, do we have to:

1) Create a domanin alias for Company1 AND

2) Have Company1's web team add the following as an entry for their website: go.company1.com CNAME company2.mktoweb.com

Once this is done, let's say we build a landing page in Marketo that generates a link of info.company2.com/happysheep, we should be able to also use go.company1.com/happysheep and land on the page, yes?

I look forward to your thoughts!

Thanks,

Alexis

Re: Domain Alias & Marketo Migration

Hi Alexis,

Scenario 1:

When you migrate from *info.apples.com* to *info.bananas.com*, the default URL will switch immediately. But you should also immediately create a domain alias for info.apples.com so that all the links towards the previous URLs continue to work.

Scenario2:

You will have to create a domain alias for go.company1.com which will required a DNS entry in the company1.com domain DSN zone, but not a cname to company2. Instead, that cname entry will be for name:"Go" and value "[accountstring].mktoweb.com". Once this is done, every LP in you Marketo instance will be accessible from the 2 domains (go.company1.com and info.company2.com).

This is all tested on various instances

Re: Domain Alias & Marketo Migration

Hi Gregoire,

Thanks for the prompt response! To clarify then, for Scenario 2, I'll end up creating a domain alias for go.company1.com in the Marketo instance where the main domain is info.company2.com. Then, I'll have the web team who manages www.company1.com add a DNS entry that looks like:

go.company1.com CNAME [accountstring].mktoweb.com

Thanks so much again!!
