How can I have a Lead Source of blank in my report?

I ran a month to date report for Leads by Lead Source and I have leads (the largest volume) without a lead source.  Can someone provide some insight on how to track down why or how this is happening?

Hi Cos -

At what point in the lead lifecycle are you appending lead source to a lead? Is it a hidden field on your forms? Do you have a column for this on your imports?

Lead source will only be attributed to a lead when you tell Marketo to define and append it.

Let me know if you need more inisght.

Cos,

Try running the same report based on "Original Source Type" or "Original Source Info".

Both of these are Marketo populated fields that will always contain a value.

I should have indicated; that I am new to using and inheriting a Marketo system.  I found out that there are Marketo forms that have a  hidden field of lead source and the field doesn't  indicate a source by default.

Should all forms have a lead source indicated?  Also, what about landing pages?

Re: How can I have a Lead Source of blank in my report?

Hi Cos,
I always suggest to set Lead Sources. It is also good to have a Initial Lead Source which is just set the first time and a "Last Touch Lead Source" which is always set new when he submits several forms. I like it to have as much information as possible, for example maybe one Whitepaper is the last touch before a opportunity is closed in most cases. That information would be very good.
You can set this when submitting forms. If you want to you could also do it using a Smart Campaign for visiting a very important landing page without a form.

Best regards
