We use hidden fields to track success and conversions. This information helps sync to SFDC and makes it easy to have many query strings going into one program flow. Dory Viscogliosi​ makes an excellent point about determining if your fields are First Time info only or can be overwritten.

Definitely the most important step is having the parameters in your URL as you could pull the smartlist afterwards.

Awesome, thanks Emily.  Yes we want to do the same, but it is going to take some convincing with our IT teams.  At least for now we can start with the URL strings to understand traffic flow, show how we are doing it and then identify the gap on conversion analysis so our IT teams can help us on the code with hidden fields and SFDC.
