Dynamics Integration vs Salesforce Integration

Hi all,

We are in the process of considering a new CRM to sync with Marketo,

At the moment it is between Salesforce and Dynamics,

After reading quite a few older posts on here, it would seem that you lose a bit of functionality with Dynamics. For example, one of the functions in Marketo that would be really useful for us is campaign influence and reporting. This only seems to be available with SFDC. What’s the workaround for this with Dynamics? Has anyone fully configured revenue explorer, opportunity influence analyzier or program analyzer with dynamics?

In short, I would just like to get an idea of the pros/cons of Salesforce and Dynamics for Marketo.

Much appreciated,

David

Hi David,

The only thing Marketo needs in order for you to be able to setup a revenue model and run the rev explorer or program analyzer is opportunity information. And this sync's well between MSD and Marketo.

Marketo-MSD sync is limited, by comparison with Marketo-SFDC on the following items:

  • Program - campaign sync is not possible with MSD
  • MSD Campaign membership info is not available from Marketo
  • You cannot assign a lead to a specific user on "Sync with MSD" flow step. All lead assignment will have to run in MSD, and you do not have the "change owner" flow step either.
  • You cannot create tasks from Marketo in MSD
  • You cannot detect from Marketo task creation nor task update that would occur in MSD

On the pro side, a couple of new features will be made available in the Marketo summer 16' version due this week and will be available only with MSD, not with SFDC.

Re: Dynamics Integration vs Salesforce Integration

Thanks Greg for this list. I can think of a few more current limitations in MS Dynamics - Marketo integration:

  • Dynamics uses primary campaign for lead source reporting, but this is hard to set from Marketo.
  • The sync has a few minutes longer latency. While syncing with SFDC starts immediately, the sync of a new lead from Marketo to MS Dynamics starts 5 minutes after current sync cycle concludes. This means you need longer wait steps in a campaign that depends on a value being set by Dynamics.
  • {{SP_Alert_Info_Token}} in sales alert emails is not supported

In my experience, most of the limitations can be worked around although it increases the cost and complexity of the install.

Re: Dynamics Integration vs Salesforce Integration

A couple corrections here:

  • When you sync a new lead from Marketo to MSD, you are able to define the lead owner.  But once it's assigned, you can no longer re-assign it in Marketo

  • The {{SP_Alert_Info_Token}} is fully supported in real-time alerts.  Not sure what information is populated on the SFDC side, but this is what is included for MSD users (which includes a link to a read-only view of the lead activity log):

Re: Dynamics Integration vs Salesforce Integration

Hello Dan,

thank you for the clarification. According to Marketo product docs here: Use the Send Alert Info Token {{SP_Send_Alert_Info}} - Marketo Docs - Product Docs , link to CRM is not available when integrated with MS Dynamics. On the other hand, In SFDC, the salesperson will get a link to a record in salesforce, which is convenient for them so they can immediately log a follow-up.

Re: Dynamics Integration vs Salesforce Integration

The product docs have it wrong.  It works fine for us.  Here's a portion of our sales alerts that go out when a lead is qualified (and I already included a sample above as to what this token resolves to):

Hi Pavel,

With regards to performance, the upcoming version is expected to boost it very significantly.
