This site uses a plugin(application/x-ati-urlmon) that is unsupported.

I'm having a strange problem with some of my embdeded marketo forms.

When loading some of them on Chrome after 42, I get a pop up saying: "This site uses a plugin(application/x-ati-urlmon) that is unsupported." I checked the payload that these problem forms return, and they all contain "type= application\/x-ati-urlmon" . The ones that work correctly do not contain this text, even though they are pretty much carbon copies of the problem forms. The problems that do throw this error to our users seem to work completely fine.

Has anyone encountered this before?

Re: This site uses a plugin(application/x-ati-urlmon) that is unsupported.

I found the solution to this.

It seems like there was html triggering this popup within the custom marketo form. I should have looked here first, but I didn't think the marketing team here was capable of throwing an NPAPI based plugin into a custom marketo form so I assumed it was coming from somewhere else. I spoke with them, and they said that code was automatically generated by marketo occasionally when they edited the forms. I couldn't reproduce this, so I'm not sure if that's true but if it was true it seems like marketo has addressed this problem already.

A cursory search seems to indicate that this is usually related to a local extension/malware.  Can you check your extensions in chrome to see if there are any unknown extensions?

Re: This site uses a plugin(application/x-ati-urlmon) that is unsupported.

I tried a few different Chrome environments, including one with no no active extensions. The problem seems to happen on all versions of Chrome above 42 when loading forms that contain "application\/x-ati-urlmon" in the payload. I tried loading the problem forms through the console, and I got the popup as soon as I loaded the form.
