Blocked/Do Not Email List

I am trying to create an all-encompassing smart list for our team to use in their programs to exclude leads in our system that we should not be trying to email.

I have created a list in our lead database with the following parameters to catch leads that meet any of the following:

1. Unsubscribed = True

2. Email Address = Is Empty

3. Email Invalid = True

4. Black Listed = True

5. Marketing Suspended = True

6. Email Suspended At = In Past 24 Hours

My questions are:

1. Does this strategy make sense?

2. Is there another way I should be setting up my smart list?

Thank you,

Christine

Hi Christine,

Yes, this is a good thing It means that you have correctly excluded leads that would not have received the email anyway.

As a result, you will have less members, so the success to members ratio will also be higher

I've seen 'email address not contain "@"' but that should be caught in the invalid marker. everything else seems accurate.

Hi JD,

Indeed, it will be caught as invalid email.

Re: Blocked/Do Not Email List

Hi Christine,

Yes, this does make a lot of sense. We call it the "global exclusion list" and we use it to always exclude leads from smart campaign or program target. No need to add them to your targets, since they will not be sent the emails anyway. They would just ruin your target to success rates 🙂

We also add a custom field called "administrative contact" that are for accountants or legal people that we have in our database (we do not sell to them). And we also add a couple of lead statuses such as "Out of Scope", although these may be included in the black list anyway.

Re: Blocked/Do Not Email List

Greg -

I just wanted to confirm one thing, if a smart campaign schedule is showing zero leads blocked form emails this is a good thing?

I'm trying to understand if it is more beneficial for my team to be able to click and see the names excluded or send to a viable group with 0 leads blocked b/c they have already been excluded in the smart list.

Thank you!
