Re: Server side form post examples

Thanks so much for your advice Sanford Whiteman and Amelia Willson—just went with the example above ( http://app-xx00.marketo.com/index.php/leadCapture/save?munchkinId=xxx-xxx-xxx&formid=0000&returnLPId...and made sure the variable name was 'Email" in the SumoMe settings.

Seems to work perfectly!

Seems to work perfectly!

(Except for tracking the lead's web activities, I presume.)

Re: Server side form post examples

Tom Lloyd - thank you SO much for raising this question re: syncing sumome leads in real-time -- exporting & importing csv files have always been a pain. Did you ask for other fields on your sumome form? In our sumome form, we also ask for both company name & phone number-- both variables which I'd like to push into Marketo beyond email address.

Re: Server side form post examples

Julia, which SumoMe micro-app are you using to present this form?  If it's just custom form HTML you can put whatever Marketo fields you want in there. SumoMe doesn't care about the fields/action of a custom form.  It just decides when to show it.

Re: Server side form post examples

Hi Julia Pan - glad you found it helpful (and thanks for the info from Amelia Mango and Sanford Whiteman)!

Like you, once I cracked the Marketo integration I started thinking of all the possible forms and information we could capture using SumoMe... however, where I hit a roadblock is that it seems the SumoMe interface only allows for the email address to be passed as a variable (see screenshot) as an option.

However: having said that, it's possible that there are ways round this that Sanford might be able to expound upon. Certainly you can add custom fields to your heart's content within the form (that will be captured in .csv), I'm just not certain whether SumoMe will allow you to pass more than the email variable along with it into Marketo.

Re: Server side form post examples

Ah yes, I've been talking to their support team and it looks like a Marketo integration as well as passing additional variables to the success redirect URL is on their nebulous product roadmap. They recommended trying to use Zapier to connect the two platforms but unfortunately Marketo also does not integrate with Zapier.

Instead of creating custom HTML and using SumoMe as the vehicle, it looks like their competitor, OptInMonster connects directly with Marketo: How to Connect OptinMonster with Marketo. I do want to be able to a/b test different pop up campaigns & triggers--creating custom form HTML may not be the best use for this type of robust testing!

Thanks all for the help

Re: Server side form post examples

No, OptinMonster's "integration" is broken as well. You need to write custom JS for it to work. Same with UnBounce: awesome platform, needs custom JS/config beyond anything built-in.

You have to understand that these companies are not Marketo users (or even if the marketers are, their engineers aren't). Without fail, they overpromise, leaving out one or more critical features that we would consider "Marketo-aware."
