Auto-email based off registration, then add to nurture?

I want to set up a nurture campaign for anyone who registers on our website.

Once they register, they receive an automated email from our director that 1.) thanks them and 2.) asks for more info by filling out a form for their email preferences. This email is in a smart campaign, not within the nurture stream itself.

I want to send a follow up email a week later from the date that email was sent (which is the day the lead signs up) but am having trouble putting this into a nurture program.

I can only schedule daily, weekly or monthly at a certain time, but is there some kind of scheduling mechanism I can use that will make sure it waits a week from the first email sent, similar to the wait step? If I schedule daily, I risk that a lead would receive 2 emails in 2 days, and when I add more content to the stream, it will be every day in a week. Too much.

Any ideas? Or should I just use a standard email program and use wait steps?

Re: Auto-email based off registration, then add to nurture?

Hi Jackie,
hope you want to send more than 1 email using the engagement program, correct?

You could, if the 7 day difference is important, send the second mail also using the smart campaign and after that add them to the nurture. To be sure that the next email will not be sent within 2 days you could add a wait step in the smart campaign and after for example 7 days add them to the nurture program.
But the engagement program will sendout information on the defined days and will not be different from user to user if I'm not totally wrong.

Best regards

I have a campaign very similar to what you described. I would recommend adding a wait step in the smart campaign with the thank-you and have the second email sent that way.

If you don't want to add an additional wait step before adding them to an engagement program, you can set up a rule that only allows one email to send per day. You can do so in the Admin section under "communication limits."

If you feel it is more critical that the second follow-up email is received before the emails in the engagement program, make sure to specify a send time that's earlier than what you have on the engagement program cadence. Once the email sends, the lead will not receive another email until the next cast.

I hope this makes sense (and helps)!

Re: Auto-email based off registration, then add to nurture?

Hi Steffen,
Yes, I'll have more content - just playing out the flow right now.

It makes sense to me, to have a lead receive an automatic email the day they register. It's personable, timely and catching them in the right state of mind. I'll have to do some more digging to figure out exactly what we want, but I wish there was a trigger set up inside the stream scheduler - that would make it more simplified and I could keep all assets inside the stream instead of outside. Thanks for your help.

Re: Auto-email based off registration, then add to nurture?

Hi Kara,
Thanks for your input! That's very smart. Can I specificy communication limits per program? Sometimes we need leads to receive 2 or more emails a day ( webinar invite email, then when they sign up for a webinar and get a confirmation, for example).

Hi Jackie,
it's an overall communication limit:
