Looking for Lead Lifecyle and Contact Status examples

Hi All,

I am looking for some lead life cycle examples and contact status examples. Also, wondering if people typically map Status on the lead record and contact record in SFDC since Marketo treats them both as leads?

The Lead Lifecycle statuses we currently have in place are: Marketing Lead, Marketing Qualified, Sales Qualified, Working, ReQualify, UnQualify, and Outsource Follow Up. These also only live on the lead record, not the contact record. Are we missing out on qualifying contacts on prospects accounts if these statuses don't live on the contact record as well? Should other Lead Lifecycle statuses exist like Opportunity, Current Customer or anything else that would identify them farther down the pipeline?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Lauren

Yes, see my presentation from 2015's Summit

Marketo Revenue Cycle Model and Lead Lifecycle How To

and yes, you should map the Lead Status to "Contact Status" at conversion and consider the first level of the Contact and what it should be. Can a Contact be an MQL? Does that matter to you?

Most of the time I consider a Contact at SAL or SQL, making the assumption Sales must want the lead. But a Contact could be Recycled or Nurturing as well or this value may get flipped if the Account Status/Type changes.

Hi Josh,

Thanks! Do you recommend any status types after an opportunity is closed? In our instance, a Contact could be MQL because we have a lot of older contact data on prospects accounts due to a conversion process we used to have in place.

Depends a bit on if you want all Contacts in an Account flipped to "Won" or "Client" at that point. It may throw your funnel reporting off to say that every lead was involved.
