Program Success vs. SFDC Responded

Hi,

I'm in the process of trying to get our team to start Syncing with SFDC Campaigns, and using the program statuses in Marketo, rather than setting up new statuses each time and SFDC Campaign is created.  Now I know that when the sync is set up it forces the Marketo program statuses across into SFDC, but all of our reporting is done based on 'Responses' in the SFDC campaign Status.

So, my question is - how do I chose which statuses are marked as responded from Marketo (would this be those marked as 'Success')?  I'm trying to cut down on how many steps are carried out today for the team.

Thanks

Julz

Re: Program Success vs. SFDC Responded

Hi Juli,

The statuses marked "success" in Marketo would only matter in Marketo.  That success status doesn't affect anything in Salesforce.

If you're using the Marketo Program sync to create a campaign in SFDC, then what I would recommend is creating a new channel type in Marketo, or editing an old one, and you can use whatever statuses you like.  Then when you create the new SFDC campaign from a program in that new channel, all of the statuses will sync to SFDC and will already be what you want them to be.

Re: Program Success vs. SFDC Responded

Hi Julz,

First thing first, program successes in Marketo will normally give the same result as responses in SFDC. You may find a small difference sometimes, when a new Marketo lead becomes a program member but cannot be pushed to SFDC (usually because some mandatory info is missing and SFDC refuses the insertion).

And yes, all statuses you flag as successes in Marketo Channel setting will be "Responded" in the campaign advanced setup in SFDC.

The capacity of Marketo to "push" to SFDC member status definition is very welcome as it significantly reduce the number or errors and makes measurement consistent.

Finally, IMHO, the key questions are :

  • Which statuses are successes really depends on your business rules. For instance, on a webinars, are all registered successes or only attendees ?
  • Does every one in the company agree on the definition of successes ?

This is the only bit I wanted to confirm thank you both 🙂
