changing flow wait stages

I sometimes need to add an email to an existing flow that has several wait stages. In these cases, I need to adjust the wait stage prior to and after the email I am adding. What's the best practice for this?

Hi Hank,

Changing wait steps will not affect those leads that have already been through the flow step.  I wrote an article about wait steps with all the information you'll need below.

It is best to use Engagement programs unless you have varying cadences.

Thanks Josh - someone gave me a heads up about those early on but we do have varying cadences.

Re: changing flow wait stages

You can change cadence per stream, so if the nurture emails are based on activity, you can move them back-and-forth between streams. I'm not sure if that helps any, but it might at least keep things a bit cleaner in your flow!

Thanks Jennifer - that won't work for this situation but that may be useful for some other things down the road.

John Clark

Very helpful article John that gives some of the pitfalls on wait steps.

Hank Hansen Just editing a wait duration would work fine with the caveats noted in John's article. However for more involved changes I generally find it easier not to edit an active flow that has a lot of people in it. Typically I would just close it off to new leads and create a new one for new leads to enter that has the correct flow.

Otherwise there is potential to create some dramatic mishaps which I have experienced (e.g., leads receiving an email too early, etc.)
