set up a system wide rule where we specify that a record does not get an email

Is there a way to set up a system wide rule where we specify that a record does not get an email if they've opened one in the last 5 days?  This would only pertain to Marketing emails and not Operational emails.  Also, if put this rule in place, is there a way to bypass this rule in case we have an urgent emails we think should go out within the 5 days rule?

Re: set up a system wide rule where we specify that a record does not get an email

We set up a trigger campaign that Marketing Suspends folks for 3 days post email delivery. They are marked Marketing Suspended, then a wait step of 3 days, then unmark. The only way I know of bypassing the Marketing Suspend is by having the email be operational. I know folks set up email preferences for the users where they can opt in to event invitations, but opt out of newsletters. We don't have that set up ourselves, but there might be some leeway there.

Jeff, I like that idea!

There are several ways to deal with this.

1. Global Email Rules in Admin.
2. Do what Jeff did.
3. Setup a special suppression list for people who received and Opened/Clicked an email in the past X days. Always add that list as NOT IN to your campaigns. To avoid using it, then just remove it from the Campaign.

The question is - what does your lead think is urgent?

Are they ok with daily emails?
