Account Ownership - Inside vs. Outside Reps

Hi All,

We have both inside and outside reps...inside reps are organized based on vertical, outside reps are based on vertical and territory. Within SFDC, both types of reps have the ability to 'own' accounts, and we've been using an account status picklist (suspect, prospect, active cycle) to dictate who owns what. Some of the reps are getting held up on the fact that they might not show up as the contact owner for every contact in an account that they own. The reasons for this are plentiful, but mostly come from those contacts being added by different reps when they had ownership of the account.

Just curious if anyone has best practices or tips to help keep a distinction between accounts owned by different types of sales reps. Thanks!

Re: Account Ownership - Inside vs. Outside Reps

I've always just had the outside rep be the primary 'owner' and created a secondary field for the inside rep. This made it easy for profiles to be set up since they could be mirrored off of one another.

I'd check SFDC community too for answers.

We have the same solution as Kristen in place. An extra addition that we made to align contact owners to the account owner is a batch script running in SFDC once a day to change all contact owners into the account owner.

Re: Account Ownership - Inside vs. Outside Reps

We have account owners and account development reps for those accounts. We have a secondary field for accout development rep and we also assign all of the contacts that the account dev rep is working to them versus the account owner.
