Enable to distinguish username from email at user creation

Today, when creating a user, the username and the email have to be the same. Once the user has logged in for the first time e/she can change his/her email address.

I just ran an instance migration project when a few tens of users had to be created in the new instance. Problem: their email addresses where used ad user names in the old instance...

We had to ask IT to create a new email address for each them.

The same issue arise when you want to give access to someone to a sandbox.

Please Marketo, enable to set a user name that is different from the email address at user creation!

Can't you use the + trick to distinguish the email and user so marketo sees a unique username?

I agree this is a pain for the reasons you described.

Hi Josh,

This trick is supported by gmail, not by MS Exchange messaging system, for instance.

I and my team do use it for each customer. But I have a case of a large company that wants all the users to use the sandbox for training. And the IT process to get additional email boxes created is a real pain and no one seems to figure out how just to create email aliases in their system.

Plus, they use SFDC and SFDC enables this, so they keep asking me the question why Marketo does not

Hey Greg,

There is a nice feature coming up called as 'Universal ID' which will allow users to use same marketo username to access multiple marketo instances. Not only that but would also allow them to switch between the instances once they login to one of the instance.

This will atleast solve the problem of not requiring the need of multiple email aliases.

There will still be username and email as 2 different attributes of the user but when using universal id, system would not allow to change  the username when user changes the email address.

Hi Mahesh,

I have one customer. They would be interested in the context of a Single Sign On connexion, so that user can alternatively connect to their production or sandbox.
